Southern California-based singer-songwriter Megan Vidovich can’t remember a time that she wasn’t singing, writing songs, or performing for her family and friends. She does, however, recall the turning point when she realized that music was more than just an extracurricular activity.

“When I was eight, my guitar teacher inspired me to pursue music more seriously,” recalls Megan, who grew up on a steady diet of The Beatles. “She was like a rock star to me. I wanted to be like her.” Four years later, Megan began writing her own songs for fun – and then something clicked. “I realized that this new hobby of mine was actually a unique talent, so I decided to see where it would take me.”

While Megan just graduated high school in 2020, her songwriting has taken her farther than she ever could have imagined. During her junior year, in between college applications and exams, the young artist connected with producer/manager Alex Houton of AHM Media – a 30-year veteran of the music industry, whose credits include work for Disney, Bravo, and ESPN, as well as for artists like Jennifer Lopez and Panic! At The Disco. Impressed with Megan’s work, Houton collaborated with the singer-songwriter and enlisted his long time business partner, GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Brian Vibberts (Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Green Day) to mix the tracks.

The resulting pop songs, set for release this year, include the breezy “Golden Brown” – a guitar-driven ode to summer – as well as the upbeat “Girlfriend,” which Megan explains is “a song for when you need to assert your independence. Anyone who doesn’t want a serious relationship should be able to relate to it.” The edgier “Angel,” meanwhile, finds the artist slowing down the tempo, as she sings about the agitation of guilt, discontent, and a conflicted subconscious.

When it comes to songwriting, Megan has found her craft to be a therapeutic tool to process her experiences. “The lyrics come out of nowhere, but they don’t lie,” she reveals. “I’ve been able to sort through all types of problems while writing. Sometimes I don’t even know how I feel about a person or relationship until I finish a song about them.” She adds, “Once a song is done, all the negativity is gone, and I can move on. “

While writing can be an emotional outlet for Megan, her songs generally tend to reflect her lighthearted, carefree nature. The artist, who describes her sound as “colorful, free-spirited, and youthful,” shares that “my music really brings out the best side of me.”

As she transitions into life as a political science major, Megan still plans to integrate and develop her musical pursuits. In addition to her new singles, the artist has set her sights on recording a full-length album and sharing her music with a wider audience. No matter where the next four years take her, Megan will always find music to be a grounding force – bringing her joy and confidence in every aspect of her life.
